Bachelor's Degree Program

Physiotherapy

extended part-time

Physiotherapy concerns human movement. It focuses on the ability to move, all the systems that affect these abilities and the interaction between sensory and motor controls. Physiotherapy comprises an important part of health care in virtually every medical field and is based on the medical sciences. Physiotherapy is used in health promotion and prevention, therapy and rehabilitation as well as in palliation and hospice facilities. The degree program combines theoretical fundamentals of physiotherapy and medicine with practical therapeutic subjects.

    Before the studies

You are interested in medicine, movement sciences, education and psychology and want to know how movement works and how you can influence and promote it. You treat people of all ages with respect, appreciation and empathy and focus on the health objectives of your patients/clients. You apply your social, practical and physical skills in the context of examination and therapy measures as well as health promotion. You are capable of careful consideration and have a structured approach when for example analyzing movements. You enjoy working independently and responsibly with people, counseling them and treating them.

Why you should study with us

To apply you will require the following documents:

    • Letter of motivation
    • CV in table form
    • Passport

    Please note!
It is not possible to save incomplete online applications. You must complete your application in one session. Your application will be valid as soon as you upload all of the required documents and certificates. In the event that some documents (e.g. references) are not available at the time you apply, you may submit these later via email, mail or in person by no later than the start of the degree program.

The admissions procedure includes a written test, a practical vocational aptitude test, and an admission interview.

    • Aim
The aim of the two stage admission process is to ensure that places are offered to those completing the multi-level admission procedure with the best results. The tests are designed to assess the skill set needed for desired profession.
    • Procedure
The written test includes a series of test requirements and checks whether the candidates have basic intellectual and social-emotional performance requirements in the areas of natural and human science general knowledge (mathematics, biology, physics, chemistry, psychology, education, human biology, nutrition, etc.) and demonstrate knowledge about the profession as well as personality traits relevant to the profession. After that, candidates who have reached the required level take part in a practical occupational aptitude test and an interview. The practical vocational aptitude test is designed to assess, among other skills, occupation-specific skills and abilities such as capacity of reaction, powers of observation, coordination and physical awareness. Personal aptitude elements are assessed in the interview. These include career motivation, career understanding, performance behavior, problem solving, and reflective ability. Each part of the test is scored.
    • Criteria
The criteria that lead to admission are exclusively performance-based. Geographical assignments or even a repeated application of the candidates have no influence on the admission. The admission requirements must be fulfilled. All required documents must be submitted on time. The final ranking of the candidates is based on the following weighting:
      • Practical vocational aptitude test (40%)
      • Interview (40%)
      • Average score of the written entrance test (20%)

The application committee, which consists of the head of the degree program and three to five persons from the team of lecturers, allocates the study places on the basis of the ranking series. The student representatives are invited to participate. The entire process as well as all test results and evaluations of the admission procedure are documented in a transparent and comprehensible manner. Candidates are invited to check their admission status via an online tool. Separate written information is not provided.

The written entrance test will be held on Saturday, 23th March 2024.

The test data valid for you (test location, test day, and time) can be viewed here

    During the studies

FH Campus Wien is now the largest university of applied sciences for health in Austria. After the legal framework was created in 2006 to introduce the MTD academies and the midwife academy into the higher education sector, FH Campus Wien launched the first bachelor's degree programs in 2007. Shortly afterwards the first master's degree programs where launched in the Department of Health. Today, FH Campus Vienna now has extensive expertise and a large network at its disposal. An important partner in the areas of education, research and development is the Vienna Healthcare Group. We also work closely with the Professional Association of Physio Austria. Various special events are regularly held at our attractive main campus. Students benefit from the modern infrastructure of our university. This includes numerous function rooms. A highlight is the movement laboratory where force plates and cameras enable the three-dimensional analysis of movements in order to gain a better understanding of movement disorders. Measurements are recorded using wireless electrodes attached to the body. Furthermore, you will also have the opportunity to join an interdisciplinary, professional community. There is great potential in research projects at the intersection of health, technology and social services. Practical relevance is also guaranteed at our Campus Lecture evenings, which are open to all and feature contributions from prominent experts.

The FH Campus Wien is the first Austrian university to offer a part-time Bachelor's degree program in physiotherapy, which will start in 2023 in the summer semester. The lectures are held in blocks in the evening or on weekends, so that studying and working can be combined much better. The part-time program includes the same theoretical and practical lectures as well as practical learning phases as the six-semester full-time program. This means that you will acquire the professional qualification of a physiotherapist. In the fourth year of study, you will mainly complete the clinical-practical training. A current employment relationship is not a prerequisite for application or admission.

The degree course will provide you with the necessary knowledge to help people in all age groups to lead a self-determined life with a high level of functional capacity and activity.

    • You will be concerned with physiotherapeutic examination and treatment procedures as well as their implementation in the therapy process. You will combine your acquired expertise and knowledge of methodology to develop comprehensive professional competence.
    • To do so you will acquire social communicative skills and self-competence.
    • You will acquire basic medical knowledge, in particular in anatomy, physiology, pathology, hygiene, bio-mechanics, kinematics, perception and posture instruction as well as various clinical disciplines.
    • Practically oriented subjects such as posture and movement instruction, basic skills in professional interaction with patients, massage, relaxation techniques, manual therapy and lymphological physiotherapy form the foundation to develop the necessary skills and techniques.
    • Basic knowledge in areas such as education, psychology, sociology, scientific working, law and ethics round out your education.
    • Beginning in the third semester, you will also implement your theoretical and practical knowledge during extensive internships under the guidance of trained physiotherapists.

    After graduation

As a graduate of this program, a wide range of occupational fields and career opportunities are open to you. Find out here where your path can take you.

Only with this degree program is it possible to practice the profession of physiotherapist. The degree program is based on the occupational licensing regulations (MTD and FH-MTD-law). As a physiotherapist, you will work with people of all age groups in health care facilities in the fields of health education, prevention, therapy, rehabilitation, palliative and hospice facilities. Physiotherapists analyze and interpret sensormotoric function and developmental disorders and influence them with specialized techniques. You will develop treatment plans together with patients/clients, choose therapeutic measures and techniques, and carry them out. Physiotherapy measures and techniques include all types of movement therapy, perception training, manual therapy, respiratory therapy, therapeutic massage, reflexology therapies, lymphological physiotherapy, electro-, thermo-, photo-, hydro-and balneotherapy measures, performance and electro-diagnostic examination procedures. In the context of prevention, you are primarily active in health education and counseling. The degree program provides a strong foundation together with practical work experience and continuing training to take on management positions or research activities

As a physiotherapist, you will work in prevention, therapy and rehabilitation in every clinical field such as prevention, palliation, health counseling and education. You will work as a staff member or self-employed, alone or in interdisciplinary teams together with doctors and experts from other specialist disciplines in the following areas:

    • Hospitals, day clinics
