Lecture contents

Students will be stimulated to link and apply the obtained knowledge and skills from previous lectures to real patients with problems of the organ- and musculoskeletal system as far as possible. The analysis from the assessment results, the identification of functional and structural problems, and the application of all physiotherapeutic skills obtained so far, is the main content of this course.

Introduction in Manual Therapy
Manual examination/ Physical examination:
active and passive movement, resistance tests, end feel, traction/ compression, joint play tests; introduction in neurodynamic, examination of mobility in the nervous system with selected standardised tests; evaluation and interpretation of the outcomes/ test results
Manual treatment methods:
Mobilisation with traction and compression, gliding techniques on selected joints of the extremities and spinal column sections as well as soft tissue techniques in some examples; principles of neurodynamic treatment; and the implementation of the physiotherapy process in Manual Therapy.

Pain assessments as well as therapeutic principles for patients with pain in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with special consideration of the musculoskeletal system
The physiotherapeutic process in the field of physical medicine
Exo- and endogenous thermotherapy
Muscle stimulating and pain modulating effects of constant currents, pulsed currents and modulated currents
Basics of electro diagnosis and analytical procedure in the determination of the correct treatment parameters
Ultrasound with application examples
Implementation of the physiotherapeutic process using paper cases
Application examples in the field of muscle stimulation, pain treatment, metabolism normalization and wound healing
