The demand for intelligent microcomputer systems is constantly increasing and with it the demand for well-trained experts. As a graduate of the Master's degree program Technical Informatics, you will implement AI-supported microcomputer systems optimized for the respective application, e.g. for autonomous vehicles, aircraft and robotic systems, the monitoring and control of industrial processes (e.g. in Industry 4.0 applications) as well as for the medical sector. In addition, you will acquire management skills that will qualify you for future management tasks in the field of research and development.

    Before the studies

    You are open to new technologies and you have already acquired programming skills in C as well as technical knowledge at hardware, software and system level. You think in an analytical and structured way, but also across disciplines, and you are looking for a Master's degree program to expand and deepen your technical expertise. Your main focus will be on microprocessors, their real-time software development, secure networking and possible applications in complex systems. You are interested in new technologies. Engineering fascinates and inspires you, especially the creative and challenging environment in the application of new technologies. You can easily establish links between different disciplines. You are willing to take on responsibility and see your Master's degree program as a stepping stone into the field of research and development.

    The relevant admission requirement is

    • a completed relevant Bachelor's degree (specializing in architecture) or
    • an equivalent degree at a recognized domestic or foreign post-secondary educational institution.

    A total of 180 ECTS credits whereas a specific minimum must be obtained in the in the fields of electronics / digital technologies, programming / software engineering, network / network technologies, math and personal development. In exceptional cases, the head of degree program or, in individual cases, the FH-Council (university council) decides.

    The Bachelor's degree program Applied Electronics and Technical Informatics offered at FH Campus Wien meets the relevant admission requirement.

    Language requirements for admission

    The required language level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is at least

    • German - level B2.

    Legalization of foreign documents

    Applicants may require legalization of documents from countries other than Austria in order for them to have the evidential value of domestic public documents. Information on the required legalizations can be found here in PDF format.

    Translation of your documents

    For documents that are neither in German nor English, a translation by a sworn and court-certified interpreter is required. Your original documents should have all the necessary legalization stamps before translation so that the stamps are also translated. The translation must be firmly attached to the original document or a legalized copy.

    Online application - uploading documents

    As part of your online application, upload scans of your original documents including all required legalization stamps. For documents not issued in German or English, scans of the corresponding translations must also be uploaded. The head of the study program decides on the equivalence of international (higher) education qualifications. Therefore, your documents can only be checked as part of the ongoing application process.

      • If you have not yet completed your studies, please upload proof of all courses completed to date as part of the relevant degree program, including ECTS credits.
    4. Proof of German level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The following apply as proof:
      • secondary school leaving certificate from a German-language school
      • completion of at least three years of studies in German
      • supplementary examination pre-study course - German B2
      • German certificate (not older than 3 years). The cartificate can be obtained from the following institutes, among others:
        • Austrian German Language Diploma: ÖSD Certificate B2
        • Goethe Institute: Goethe Certificate B2
        • telc: German B2
        • German language test for university admission for foreign applicants: DSH-2
        • German Language Diploma of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany: DSD II
        • Test of German as a foreign language (Test DaF): Level TDN 4 in all parts
        • Language Center of the University of Vienna: Course and successfully passed exam at level B2
      • Proof of a higher language level is also valid.

    Your application is valid once you have completely uploaded the required documents. If you do not have all the documents at the time of your online application, please submit them to the secretary's office by email as soon as you receive them.

    After completing your online application, you will receive an email confirmation with information on the next steps.

    The admission procedure consists of a written test and an interview with the admission committee. 

    • Aim
      The aim is to ensure places are offered to those persons who complete the multi-level admission procedure with the best results. The tests are designed to assess the skills needed for the intended profession.
    • Procedure
      The written admission test comprises a number of tests to assess your logical thinking faculties and your understanding of technical processes. All applicants will then be invited to an admission interview where your ability to learn, your motivation for your choice of degree program and profession and your verbal expression skills.
    • Criteria
      The criteria for acceptance are based solely on performance. Points are awarded for the written test results and the admission interview. The applicants will be ranked correspondingly. The geographical origin of the applicant has no influence on the admission decision. The admission requirements must be met in all cases. The process as a whole and all test and assessment results from the admission procedure are documented in a verifiable manner and archived.

    During the studies

    With the Master's degree program Technical Informatics, you are opting for a program that combines the core topics of electronics, computer science, signal processing and communication technologies. The knowledge you acquire will open up many career prospects for you: from building automation, aircraft and vehicles or the medical field to the monitoring and control of industrial processes. Our top-equipped laboratories, such as the electronics or network laboratory, are always at your disposal so that you can work under real conditions during your studies and thus be optimally prepared for your future professional challenges. We also value your involvement in R&D projects. With your work during the studies, we invite you to help shape the transfer of knowledge between practice and research. 

    The Master's degree program Technical Informatics focuses on research into industrial image processing applications. Increasingly powerful processors are opening up new and interesting solutions in the automatic evaluation of images from industry and medicine. Together with our scientists, you as a student can actively develop algorithms that enable the reliable and efficient assessment of defects and anomalies.  

    During the studies, we attach great importance to linking our field of work with other technical disciplines in our department. We work on many interdisciplinary questions and look forward to your collaboration in these areas.  

    Your studies will focus on know-how relating to software, hardware, signal processing and networking technologies. You will also acquire social and management skills to optimally prepare you for future management tasks.  

    • In the Software module, you will learn more about hardware-related programming and the use of real-time operating systems. 
    • Hardware includes design and simulation techniques for the development of digital circuits as well as sensors and actuators as interfaces to process peripherals. Other focal points are digital signal processing for processing sensor signals and technologies for networking small computers. 
    • In the lectures, you will learn more about fault-tolerant systems for safety-critical applications (e.g. in the field of autonomous robots and autonomous vehicles or in clinical engineering). 
    • In the area of personal development, the focus is on social skills - from communication skills to leadership and management know-how.

With your know-how, you can play an active role in shaping this development. The combination of software and hardware know-how qualifies you for both highly specialized and cross-industry activities. Many doors are open to you - from hardware-related programming and signal processing algorithms to hardware development and research tasks. Graduates work for manufacturers and in technical offices in the field of software and/or hardware development, production, marketing, installation and maintenance of complex electronic devices.
