Every pregnancy is unique. Much is based on science and technology, but what matters most is the personal care that is offered by midwives. They accompany women and families during pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period and the breastfeeding period. The midwife monitors and provides advice regarding care, nutrition, hygiene and checkups. They detect the first signs when something is not as it should be. In this degree program you will be trained to practice clinical midwifery as well as the increasingly important field of health counseling.

The FH Campus Wien is characterised by extensive expertise and a large network. FH Campus Wien is the only university of applied sciences in Austria to train all seven legally regulated upper-level medical-therapeutic-diagnostic professions as well as midwifery. An important partner in the areas of education, research and development is the Vienna Healthcare Association. You will benefit from the state-of-the-art infrastructure of our attractive main campus. One of the function rooms is set up like a delivery room, equipped with a birthing stool and hospital bed that can be converted into a gynecological chair. An incubator is also available for practicing, equally important is the professional community. Furthermore, you have the opportunity to join a professional community across disciplines. There is great potential in research projects at the interface between health and technology and practical relevance is guaranteed when we organise one of our freely accessible lecture evenings with top-class experts as part of the Campus Lectures.
In the degree program you will learn everything about childbirth. In addition, the degree program will provide you with sound scientific theory and practical experience in extensive internships to optimally prepare you to counsel women, couples and families from every social layer in preparation for a birth, after a birth or in family planning. In addition to these comprehensive responsibilities, the trend is moving towards more and more women giving birth later and having fewer children. These women therefore experience the birth very consciously and are increasingly asking for a personal midwife to accompany them through the entire process. This increases the opportunities to work independently and thus take advantage of the diversity of midwifery. Child birth is only part of your profession. In the free practice you will accompany pregnant women and their families through the entire pregnancy. This gives you the time to build a relationship of trust and involve the social environment from the beginning. Many midwives offer additional services on topics such as acupuncture, counseling for breastfeeding, pelvic floor training or nutrition counseling in the first year of life.
The degree program combines relevant practical knowledge of midwifery with medical and social sciences. Methodological, personal development and legal topics will round out your education.

As a graduate of this program, a wide range of professional fields and career opportunities are open to you. Find out where your path can lead you.
Midwives cover the entire spectrum from prenatal care, birth preparation, obstetrics, child birth, postnatal care and family planning. Many midwives work in hospitals, health care facilities and birthing centers, in home birth assistance, in group practices and midwife practices. In hospitals they are in the delivery room and, increasingly, also in integrative maternity wards. They empower women in their self-confidence, support the dynamics of birth and intervene as little as possible. Already before the child is born you will observe the course of the pregnancy and the development of the fetus in the womb. You provide information about the necessary examinations and advice on care, nutrition and hygiene. You will learn to identify psychosocial changes and to detect signs of irregularities in the mother and the child. You are well prepared to provide medical and psychological help in emergencies. Those who wish to gain experience abroad may take advantage of the opportunity to work with international aid organizations.
We work closely with the Vienna Healthcare Group, universities like the Medical University of Vienna, the Board of Austrian Midwives and other health care facilities. This guarantees you strong contacts for internships, employment or participation in research and development activities. You will complete the extensive internships at, among others, the hospitals of the Vienna Healthcare Group. You can find information about our cooperation activities and much more at Campusnetzwerk. It's well worth visiting the site as it may direct you to a new job or interesting event held by our cooperation partners!
