With the EU Green Deal, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the European Union's draft omnibus regulations, sustainability reporting has become a strategic must for companies.
FH Campus Wien is launching a new interdisciplinary project - the "ESG SmartHub" - to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Vienna in particular to get to grips with this complex topic.
The ESG SmartHub is a central teaching, learning and networking platform on the topics of the environment, social work and good corporate governance. The SmartHub offers target group-specific information, training opportunities and advice - from Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and basic courses to webinars, expert interviews and case studies, as well as best practices and discussion forums. At the same time, a community of practice is being established in which stakeholders from science and industry can network and exchange ideas in a low-threshold manner.
Another focus of the ESG SmartHub is on cooperative consulting projects with Viennese companies. Under the guidance of experts from FH Campus Wien, students and young academics develop concrete solutions for current CSRD challenges and the voluntary reporting standard for SMEs (VSME). The knowledge gained flows directly back into the platform and thus contributes to the continuous improvement and practical orientation of the programme. "Our aim is to build a bridge between science, business and practice. The ESG SmartHub not only offers orientation in a rapidly evolving regulatory environment, but also provides concrete support to SMEs in implementing ESG requirements and anchoring sustainability in the company," says project manager Bernd Brandt, lecturer and researcher in the Section Packaging and Resource Management at FH Campus Wien.
The ESG SmartHub is currently looking for small and medium-sized enterprises in Vienna that have already prepared sustainability reports or are voluntarily engaging with sustainability reporting and ESG issues. In order to better understand the needs of companies, FH Campus Wien is hosting a round table on 25 June from 5.00 to 6.30 pm. The aim is to share experiences, discuss challenges and gather ideas for future support programmes. Afterwards, all participants are invited to an informal get-together. If you are interested, you can contact the project team at esg-hub@fh-campuswien.ac.at.
The ESG SmartHub is funded by the City of Vienna | Economy, Labour and Statistics (MA 23).
