Additive Manufacturing Technologies - Basics ILV

Lecture contents

The course gives an overview of the basic concepts of "Rapid Product Development" and its derivatives. In addition, students gain an overview of the most important additive manufacturing processes used in industry. The entire process chain is considered from the idea through the first CAD designs to the finished, finished finished product.

Lecture contents

The course gives an overview of the so-called additive design, the design of components and assemblies for manufacturing by suitable methods of additive manufacturing. With suitable software tools for topology and structure optimization, the handling and execution of complex optimization tasks with regard to bionic design is shown on CAD designs. The solution of a complex optimization task as well as the selection of a suitable manufacturing process are explained.

Introduction to additive manufacturing technologies - as used in the High Tech Manufacturing program (basics and application). From design to part, slicing methods, printing simple designs as a model or ready-to-use prototypes. Design of simple components taking into account customary limits (components and machines).

Lecture contents

The students are separated in groups WITH and WITHOUT "mechanical skills".
Four combustion engines will be dismantled and the steps will be documented (words, pictures, etc.)
Students without skills will be teached in theory and pactise regarding basic maschining processes (rolling, milling, grinding, drilling, etc.) before assambling the engines again.
The other students are dealing with a construction exercise.

Lecture with PowerPoint slides, installation of practical case studies and research projects (photonic sintering of electronic components, examples from selective laser sintering, etc.) Students develop and solve case studies from industry on the respective topics with the software R. All documents are available as pdf file via Moodle available for download.

-How to use different image capturing technologies to build and adapt a 3D model of a pets limb (cat or dog)
-How to use different Rapid Prototyping Technologies to build a transdermal prosthesis for a pet (cat or dog)
