Artificial Intelligence & Virtual Reality Lab “AI & VR Lab”

Project Duration: 1.10.2021 to 30.9.2026

It is the overall goal of the project to establish a central and sustainable core competence in the field of AI at FH Campus Wien. The research results will be incorporated into the teaching of the University of Applied Sciences in order to enable high-quality interdisciplinary research. By establishing an AI & VR Lab with powerful hardware in a modern learning environment, FH Campus Wien has an infrastructure at the cutting edge. AI applications are particularly promoted in medicine and smart production in order to fully exploit existing synergies at FH Campus Wien.

Students should be sensitized particular with regard to the ethical, gender-specific and safe use of AI systems.

The following hardware is available in the AI Lab:

  • two GPU servers: one server with three NVIDIA A100-80GB GPUs and one server with one NVIDIA RTX A5000-24 GB GPU
  • eight high-performance notebooks with i9 CPUs,64 GB RAM and NVIDIA RTX A5000-16 GB GPU
  • eight VR headsets
  • robot: Sawyer "Black Edition"

Research Goals

An interdisciplinary, application-oriented and innovative environment for research and development in the field of Artificial Intelligence & Virtual Reality.

  • The AI & VR Lab is designed to optimally bundle and use the synergies between different departments of FH Campus Wien, especially for industrial and medical applications.
  • The Lab enables interdisciplinary research work in cooperation with other departments and degree programs as well as external company partners. The availability of the laboratory infrastructure increases the attractiveness of FH Campus Wien for potential research partners from industry.
  • Ongoing research projects will be continued and further expanded, for example the projects "CobHob" (Robotics, Industry 4.0, together with the degree program High-Tech Manufacturing) and "Active Feedback" (Physiotherapy, together with the Department of Health Sciences). Further funding applications are submitted.
  • The results of the research are incorporated into teaching.
