An exchange semester at the FH Campus Wien

With the Erasmus+ program, Inna Shparber completed an exchange semester at the FH Campus Wien. She studies transnational social work in Germany, is deaf and in this video gives a small insight into her exchange semester in Vienna. She was particularly fascinated by the “team teaching” – find out what is meant by this term in this video.

Program: Erasmus+

Vienna is a beautiful city. The architecture, the people you meet, the cultural resources and events you can visit, but also the proximity to nature and the mountains with their beautiful landscape…Vienna actually became my second most favorite city – right after my hometown of Hamburg. FH Campus Wien is a well-organized university. I learned a lot about social spaces, town and neighborhood development as well as community work in these fields. I wouldn’t miss any of the adventures or professional experiences I had during my Erasmus+ stay in Vienna.

Field of study: Biomedical Science
Home institution: Thomas More Geel
Kind of stay: Internship
Program: Erasmus+

I was the lucky person that got to go on an Erasmus+ exchange to Vienna. I was here to do my final internship in Biomedical Laboratory Technologies at the General Hospital in Vienna (AKH). I learned so many new things in this encouraging environment and I am so thankful for everything! I met a lot of people and made some amazing friends! Thanks to all of everyone who made this the experience of a lifetime!

I would definitely recommend you to choose Vienna for your Erasmus+ exchange and when you are here, be ready to fall in love with this city! Vienna is a truly outstanding city and offers so many opportunities. It is a big multicultural city with great people, unique architecture, tasty food and providing high-quality education. My teachers at FH Campus Wien were specialists in their field and were always there to assist me. I didn’t have classical theory lectures here, but they were organized as workshops and we could do a lot of practical things that will help us in our future work. I’m convinced I’ll be coming back!

Service for Incoming Students

Orientation Week

To help you get settled into your life in Vienna and at FH Campus Wien, the International Office organizes an orientation week each semester for incoming students. It takes place one week before the start of the semester and offers you the opportunity to get to know your fellow students in advance. During the orientation week a combination of administrative support, social as well as cultural events awaits you (welcome dinner, movie night, registration with the authorities in Vienna, city tour, ...).

The orientation week is free. Participation is highly recommended as it helps ensure a pleasant and smooth start to your semester or internship in Vienna.

Culture Program

Do you know the difference between a "Kapuziner", a "Verlängerten" and a "Melange"? If you want to get to know the Viennese coffee house culture, which has been a UNESCO heritage since 2011, and other sites in Vienna, sign up for the "Culture Program".

The "Culture Program" consists of excursions, theoretical units and visits to cultural events to provide you with a multifaceted introduction to Viennese and Austrian history and the present.

Together with other incoming students, you will take a tour with the oldest Ferris wheel in the world, explore Vienna’s sewer system in the footsteps of The Third Man, experience a performance at the Vienna State Opera and much more.

Living in Vienna

Choosing the right accommodation is essential to having an enjoyable and comfortable stay abroad. Vienna has a wide range of student residences and shared rooms, making it relatively easy to find adequate accommodation. Nonetheless, we strongly recommend you start looking for accommodations early (at least three months before your arrival).

When looking for accommodations, please note that FH Campus Wien has campuses at four locations!

Student Dormitories

Rooms in student dormitories offer an uncomplicated way to get a fully equipped, yet inexpensive accommodation for a semester. Visit the online platform from OeAD-WohnraumverwaltungsGmbH. They offer rooms in various price ranges in dormitories throughout Vienna. You can look through the different offers on the homepage and book a suitable accommodation directly via the online registration
A somewhat cheaper alternative to the student dormitories offered by the OeAD-WohnraumverwaltungsGmbH are the dormitories of the Wirtschaftshilfe der Arbeiter*Innen Studierenden Österreichs (Wihast). Here, too, you can use the homepage to choose from various locations in Vienna and register for a place in one of the dormitories online.

Another option is a room in a hall of residence from STUWO student housing. STUWO has 13 different locations throughout Vienna.

Private Accommodations

Shared apartments also offer a good opportunity to get to know other students and better experience life in Vienna. The Facebook group International @ FH Campus Vienna offers shared rooms and apartments to sublet for a semester. The ÖH bulletin board also lists a large selection of available shared rooms and apartments. If you decide on a private accommodation, be sure to inquire about the facilities for the room or apartment ahead of time and be careful if you are asked to transfer money in advance.

The staff of the International Office will be happy to help you with your search for accommodations and are available to answer any questions.

Want a Buddy?

To help you prepare for your stay in Vienna and your studies at FH Campus Wien, you have the opportunity to get support from a buddy. Buddies are students from the degree programs at FH Campus Wien, who want to establish international contacts and are prepared to answer questions before and during your stay and help you get settled in well.

If you want to benefit from the help and local expertise of a buddy, please tell us in your online application.

German Courses

Do you want to learn German or improve your German language skills during your stay? The Language Center of the University of Vienna offers a large selection of German courses. ERASMUS+ students receive a 20 % discount on all German language courses. The International Office offers further financial support with a grant of € 200,- upon presentation of the course confirmation.
