Lecture contents

In this module, (social) academic work in general and specifically as a discipline within Social Work is introduced. The students learn about the central steps of academic work, such as finding topics and their concretisation, the formulation of questions, literature research and work, comprehending and editing texts, rules and techniques of academic work and writing, and apply this knowledge and these skills to their own texts. This module is the foundation for the first seminar paper, which is due during the second semester.

Lecture contents

Students will get to know the causes and dynamics of (global) migration as well as the effects of migration on the countries of origin and immigration countries, and will engage with flight as a special form of migration. They will be given an overview of the migration population in Austria and confront themselves with the worlds and circumstances of life of migrants and their offspring.
The relevant organisations in the field will be introduced, and intercultural proceedings discussed. With the help of case examples, the students’s intercultural competence will be strengthened, and concrete courses of action will be acquired.

Lecture contents

In this module, the reflection about personal learning and biography are encouraged and specific revision strategies conveyed. Alongside a presentation of students' group work as a specific form of learning, methods of time management are introduced, and the personal implementation of such methods addressed.
Furthermore, the students learn about the department's curriculum with its modular structure and receive an introduction to the administrative procedures of the degree. They receive an initial overview of the different areas of work, as well as about professional intervention in the context of Social Work.

Lecture contents

In this course students are introduced to the foundations and terminology of political processes, political communication and the aggregation of interests. Given concepts such as nation, democracy, public realm, political culture or power, central perspectives of political action in social work will be communicated. Subsequently, given select political fields, students are given the opportunity to analyse the connections between politics and social work and learn to develop political action in the tension between representative systems and non-formalised areas of politics.

Theorien der materiellen, sozialen Ungleichheiten, der Ungleichheitsforschung, der Genderstudies, Geschlechtskonstruktionen, intersektionale Theorien, Differenzbildung und Distinktion bzw. Scale-Ansätzen werden vermittelt und auf Situationen und Phänomenen in der sozialräumlichen Sozialen Arbeit bezogen können. . Vermittelt werden Theorien der gesellschaftlichen Inklusion, Integration und Teilhabe, gerechter Gesellschaft, sowie den Capabilityansatz.
