The social, political and sociopolitical and economic changes pose the social sector with major challenges. Innovative concepts make it possible to optimize the conditions in order to provide quality social services. In this European degree program you will be awarded a "joint degree" from seven European universities. In addition to scientific skills you will acquire the management skills to be able to lead organizations in the social sector. As a graduate you will be able to analyze sociopolitical and economic developments at a national and European level.

Ideally you already work in the social sector and are interested in cost management, financial accounting, social marketing, project management, personnel management, assessment and economic evaluation of social work as well as founding businesses. You consider research and international networking important in order to develop innovative solutions to social problems. You would you like to exchange knowledge about transnational developments with experts from other European countries and learn from each other. Therefore you want to expand your intercultural skills and are open for future cross-border cooperation in the social sector.
The European master's degree program is offered in cooperation with six European universities and concludes with a joint degree from these universities. The University of Poitiers in cooperation with IRTS (France) and the University of Applied Sciences of Central Switzerland / Lucerne University were also involved in the development of the program.

In addition to this intensive international cooperation, we work closely with organizations from the social sector and research institutions throughout Austria. At the Department of Social Work we have our own Competence Center for Social Work which acts as an interface between research, practice and teaching. You will also benefit from our partnerships when writing your master's thesis.
This master's degree program is the first European degree program for social economy and social work in which students are awarded a joint degree from several European universities. The degree program has an international and European focus. Modules and courses developed together with an international team increase the quality of the program. During a two-week, mandatory study period at a partner university from the joint degree network, you will deepen your professional, language and intercultural skills.You will develop a project there as part of the intercultural project management. The main focus of the program is learning to recognize European trends in social policy and the social sector and to initiate innovative solutions to social problems.
Students will acquire the know-how necessary for the planning, organization, control and leadership of organizations in the social sector.

Especially in service organizations, which include most social organizations Human Resources is called the most important factor for success. Because organizations itself do not offer their services, but all of the participating employees. To build the competence of staff and develop appropriate personnel development is required. Competence Management is introduced in many organizations to bring all these processes together. The second part of the seminar deals with all aspects of leadership.
The successful completion of the course requires the continuous presencein the seminar and active participation. The course grade is made up of the performance ofthe exam at the end of the semester, the timely answers to the questions via Moodle, theelaboration of the thematic focus and the degree of active participation in the seminar.Please note that the documents must be submitted a week before the seminar via email or via Moodle.
Discussion of reading material in the seminar and critical consideration and discussion of different approaches on the basis of practical examples. Smaller exercises between the units should promote practice-oriented content development.

The integrated lecture teaches methodological and paradigmatic basics of qualitative and quantitative research. The research process is explained along the main phases. A selection of qualitative and quantitative research approaches as well as typical procedures and conceptual elements (e.g. sampling strategies, methods of investigation and analysis) are presented in order to conceive limits and possibilities of qualitative and quantitative methods, quality criteria and ethical aspects for empirical studies. The course also provides techniques of scientific work (e.g. literature research, methods of reading, writing and giving feedback) and discusses characteristics of scientific papers and text types. Examples of applied research are used referring to the field of social work and social services / economy, in particular master theses of the study program.

The focus is on the development of qualitative and quantitative survey instruments, access to the field, specification of sampling strategies, implementation of and reflection on surveys, and the documentation and recording of data. Evaluation and analysis methods are considered as well.

Peer group learning and exchange between students are supplemented by feedback from lecturers. Between course blocks, distance learning exercises take place through the e-learning platform "Moodle". A productive learning environment is created, which enables not only progress with one's own master's dissertation, but also the application of the exercises independent of the empirical design of the master's dissertation.
Students spend a period of two weeks abroad. To earn a joint degree (based on § 3 Section 2 Subsection 10 FHStG) you must obtain at least 30 ECTS credits from our partner universities abroad.
The current economic situation makes both public funding as well as funding through donations difficult. This development provides people with social work and economic qualifications good career opportunities in a variety of professional fields:
> Bachelor or diploma in social work from a university of applied sciences> Bachelor or diploma in social sciences (e.g. political science, sociology, cultural and social anthropology, development studies, nursing science etc.)> Bachelor or diploma in educational science and philosophy> Bachelor or diploma in psychology > Bachelor or diploma at a education academy / college of education
Equivalence is determined by international agreements, validation or in individual cases a decision by the head of the academic section.

The selection process consists of an interview with the selection committee. Professional qualifications will be considered positively when awarding study places. Upon completing the selection process, the students will be divided into two groups. You should keep the dates free for both groups until the program begins.
