The social, political and sociopolitical and economic changes pose the social sector with major challenges. Innovative concepts make it possible to optimize the conditions in order to provide quality social services. In this European degree program you will be awarded a "joint degree" from seven European universities. In addition to scientific skills you will acquire the management skills to be able to lead organizations in the social sector. As a graduate you will be able to analyze sociopolitical and economic developments at a national and European level.

Ideally you already work in the social sector and are interested in cost management, financial accounting, social marketing, project management, personnel management, assessment and economic evaluation of social work as well as founding businesses. You consider research and international networking important in order to develop innovative solutions to social problems. You would you like to exchange knowledge about transnational developments with experts from other European countries and learn from each other. Therefore you want to expand your intercultural skills and are open for future cross-border cooperation in the social sector.
The European master's degree program is offered in cooperation with six European universities and concludes with a joint degree from these universities. The University of Poitiers in cooperation with IRTS (France) and the University of Applied Sciences of Central Switzerland / Lucerne University were also involved in the development of the program.

In addition to this intensive international cooperation, we work closely with organizations from the social sector and research institutions throughout Austria. At the Department of Social Work we have our own Competence Center for Social Work which acts as an interface between research, practice and teaching. You will also benefit from our partnerships when writing your master's thesis.
This master's degree program is the first European degree program for social economy and social work in which students are awarded a joint degree from several European universities. The degree program has an international and European focus. Modules and courses developed together with an international team increase the quality of the program. During a two-week, mandatory study period at a partner university from the joint degree network, you will deepen your professional, language and intercultural skills.You will develop a project there as part of the intercultural project management. The main focus of the program is learning to recognize European trends in social policy and the social sector and to initiate innovative solutions to social problems.
Students will acquire the know-how necessary for the planning, organization, control and leadership of organizations in the social sector.

The cours carries forward "Applied Empirical Research" of the 3rd term. The focus is on analysis methods and the finalisation of the master thesis.

Peer group learning and exchange between students are supplemented by feedback from lecturers. Between course blocks, distance learning exercises take place through the e-learning platform "Moodle". A productive learning environment is created, which enables not only progress with one's own master's dissertation, but also the application of the exercises independent of the empirical design of the master's dissertation.
The final Master Thesis demonstrates the ability of the student to work autonomously along a research question or problem concerning Social Economy and/or Social Work. The work on the Master thesis happens mainly in the 3rd and 4th Semester. The student gets coaching from their supervisor during this process.

Social work's aim is to change. Its central theme: to identify reasons for social misery and to treat them in a public discourse. Its key requirements are effective strategies to gain influence on the public opinion and beyond that also on politics. Demonstration of expert knowledge in this discourse does not only mean to reduce oneself to case work. Cross-relations need to be explained, possibilities for changes have to be pointed out. This can only be achieved by successfully aligning synchronized procedures within the organisation, which you as part of the management are responsible for.These strategies are part of the content of this teaching, whose main focus lies on media relations (in its central position among PR). Furthermore topics like crisis public relations, improvement of presentational- and campaigning skills will be discussed.

To earn a joint degree (based on § 3 Section 2 Subsection 10 FHStG) you must obtain at least 30 ECTS credits from our partner universities abroad.
