Physiotherapy concerns human movement. It focuses on the ability to move, all the systems that affect these abilities and the interaction between sensory and motor controls. Physiotherapy comprises an important part of health care in virtually every medical field and is based on the medical sciences. Physiotherapy is used in health promotion and prevention, therapy and rehabilitation as well as in palliation and hospice facilities. The degree program combines theoretical fundamentals of physiotherapy and medicine with practical therapeutic subjects.

FH Campus Wien is now the largest university of applied sciences for health in Austria. After the legal framework was created in 2006 to introduce the MTD academies and the midwife academy into the higher education sector, FH Campus Wien launched the first bachelor's degree programs in 2007. The class starts with a brief review of cell biology, followed by a survey of the tissues composing the human body. The morphology of the spinal chord and the principle organization of the peripheral nervous system will be lectured. The course begins with an overlap-like discussion of the morphogenesis of the central nervous system. Based on the mediated knowledge, the arrangement and nomenclature of the sections of the central nervous system (CNS), the arrangement and topology of the ventricular system, as well as the directional designations common in the CNS are taught. The topology, the histological structure and the segmental structure of the spinal cord, as well as the formation and ramification of the spinal nerves will be explained. The most important anatomical structures formed by the gray and white matter are then discussed in brain sections. The sheaths of the CNS and the spaces created by their arrangement are taught. The main dura pines, sinus durae matris and cisternae subarachnoideae are taught. Based on the knowledge of the anatomical structures discussed so far, the mechanisms and structures responsible for the formation, circulation and drainage of the cerebrospinal fluid are now discussed. The arteries and dispositional venous structures supplying the brain, spinal cord and sheaths of the CNS are taught. In the following the structure, the systematics and the topology of the parts of the visceral nervous system are discussed in detail. Thereafter, the course concludes with a systematic and topological review of the cranial nerves.

Only with this degree program is it possible to practice the profession of physiotherapist. The degree program is based on the occupational licensing regulations (MTD and FH-MTD-law). As a physiotherapist, you will work with people of all age groups in health care facilities in the fields of health education, prevention, therapy, rehabilitation, palliative and hospice facilities. Physiotherapists analyze and interpret sensormotoric function and developmental disorders and influence them with specialized techniques. You will develop treatment plans together with patients/clients, choose therapeutic measures and techniques, and carry them out. Physiotherapy measures and techniques include all types of movement therapy, perception training, manual therapy, respiratory therapy, therapeutic massage, reflexology therapies, lymphological physiotherapy, electro-, thermo-, photo-, hydro-and balneotherapy measures, performance and electro-diagnostic examination procedures. In the context of prevention, you are primarily active in health education and counseling. The degree program provides a strong foundation together with practical work experience and continuing training to take on management positions or research activities
