What you can offer

Security issues are relevant internally and externally. Security has to be planned, lived, implemented and continually adapted. This is firmly anchored in your consciousness. Likewise, risk factors must be recognized early and properly assessed. That is why you seek to build up a sound knowledge base and secure it with a recognized academic education. Responsibility and assertiveness are a matter of course for you. In difficult situations, you keep a cool head. This helps you calmly and deliberately make the right decisions.

What we offer you

FH Campus Wien positioned itself early on in the German-speaking world with academic training in the area of risk and security management, and in the following years built up a strong network throughout Austria as well as internationally. As a founding member, FH Campus Wien founded the Cooperation Network of Risk, Safety and Security Studies (CONRIS), in which universities and universities of applied sciences from all over Europe promote the further development of security and risk management. As an alumni association, the Association of Austrian Academic Security Consultants (VASBÖ) is yet another strong partner.

Through our cooperation with international organizations, ministries, offices and leading companies, we have a strong network of first-class experts in teaching and research.

What you will learn in the degree program

In the 1st semester and the beginning of the 2nd you will learn the basics of risk and security management, gain an understanding of statistical correlations and acquire management system competence for process, quality and risk management. Building on this, in the following semesters you will deepen your knowledge of the subjects of fire safety, employee security, security management (with physical security, emergency and crisis management, etc.) and information security.

As a central component of your academic training, you will write seminar papers and a research project and complete your studies with a bachelor thesis. In terms of practical work, you will take part in projects in the context of your course subjects.

In the 5th and 6th semester, focus is placed on change management. You will complete your studies with a practical project on risk and security.

What makes this degree program special

  • Holistic approach through technical, social and economic approaches
  • The opportunity to acquire accredited certificates and professional qualifications as part of the degree program
  • Credit for professional activity

With the Bachelor's Degree Program in Integrated Safety and Security Management you will learn about security from different perspectives giving you the ability to solve practical challenges with technical, social and economic approaches. With your expertise as an internal/external consultant for risk and security management, you will meet the current requirements for risk and security management positions in large companies and organizations or consulting firms. Embedded in the curriculum is also the possibility to acquire recognized certificates (e.g. process management, quality management, etc.) and professional qualifications (e.g. as security experts, fire protection officers, etc.). In addition to the degree program being part-time, it is also possible to gain credit for your professional activities in order to reduce your workload.

Crisis staff exercise

As part of the Crisis Management module integrated in the degree program, the department organizes crisis staff exercises in which students experience the complexity and dynamics of crisis situations first-hand.

Your future career

Security is becoming increasingly important. At the same time, security is shifting more and more away from the public sector to organizations and the private sector (which often organize in cooperation with authorities). The challenges involved are complex, and to provide successful security management, security must be thought along the entire value chain. Graduates of the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Integrated Safety and Security Management are qualified professionals who can analyze, create, implement and communicate concepts, and work as internal risk and security consultants. By obtaining recognized certificates, graduates have an invaluable competitive advantage over other graduates.

The bachelor's program is the foundation for your career in risk and security in the following industries:

  • Multi-utility companies (gas, electricity, water, telecommunications, etc.)
  • Industrial plants
  • Service companies in the fields of insurance and banking; transport, traffic, logistics; security, risk and crisis management; hospital and care facilities; tourism
  • Real estate sector / facility management
  • Public sector (federal, state, local, etc.)
  • Task forces, international organizations and NGOs
