FH Campus Wien is now the largest university of applied sciences for health in Austria and the largest training provider for biomedical science. After the legal framework was created in 2006 to introduce the MTD academies and the midwife academy into the higher education sector, FH Campus Wien launched the first bachelor's degree programs in 2007. Shortly afterwards the first master's degree programs where launched in the Department of Health. Today, FH Campus Vienna now has extensive expertise and a large network at its disposal. An important partner in the areas of education, research and development is the Vienna Hospital Association (KAV). We cooperate particularly closely with the professional association biomed austria for this master's degree program. Professional events, such as the Annual Meeting of Biomedical Scientists, are regularly held at our campus. The close cooperation with scientists from the Medical University of Vienna further increases the quality of your education. Our lecturers include these scientists and other top experts. You will benefit from the state-of-the-art infrastructure of our attractive main campus which also includes biomedical S2 laboratories. Unlike other advanced professional training, in the program at FH Campus Wien you will benefit from a comprehensive education with an internationally accredited academic degree. The master's degree program combines biomedical knowledge of cellular and molecular mechanisms and processes with methods and technologies in biomedical diagnostics. You will be active in genomics, proteomics and cell biology. For instance, we are working to develop better methods for the clinical diagnosis of neuropathy, a nerve damage that occurs in the feet of people suffering from diabetes, in order to prevent late complications such as amputation. Our graduate Eva Dassler received an award at the Medical University of Vienna from the Research Society of Neuropathology Austria for her master's thesis on alternative examination methods. Alisa Coric was awarded second place in the "Abbott Prize 2012 for Scientific Publications" for her master's thesis "Measurement of the Molecules of the Cellular Clock in Association with Alzheimer's Disease". New diagnostic methods that can measure certain molecules should make it possible in future to identify serious diseases such as Alzheimer even before the onset of the first symptoms.
You will acquire sound knowledge of molecular and cellular mechanisms in physiologically and pathologically changed functional systems and organs. You will acquire appropriate therapeutic concepts and expand your knowledge of biomedical diagnostic methods and technologies in the areas of genomics, proteomics, cell biology and immunology. The focus is on personalized medicine that follows specific, individualized therapy approaches.
The four-day course imparts the theoretical and practical basics of flow cytometry.Instructors with long-term experience will offer students an efficient, expeditious and targeted insight into this fascinating technology with increasing importance in clinical routine and experimental research.
Mandatory lecture with continuous assessment of course work.
Theoretical background will be presented in lectures.Practical demonstrations and exercises with hands-on possibilities, aim to enable participants to develop autonomous strategies of problem solving as required in every day life of flow cytometry. Field trips are arranged to analyzers and cell sorters. Several workstations with various sofware packages are available for practical training.Students will be coached in small groups both in theoretical and practical parts. The participation of the Austrian Society for Cytometry (OEGfZ) and the involvement of the two main companies in the field introduce participants into the community of flow cytometry. Students are enabled to find information and implement their knowledge into practical work. Additionally, useful prospective contacts will be supported.

This option takes into account the option of terminating the studies after any semester, which is the best option for those who prefer keeping open their options for early termination.

Biomedical science, natural sciences degree with a medical focus
Equivalence is determined by international agreements, validation or in individual cases a decision by the head of the academic section.
The majority of lectures are held in German, only a few are held in English. Hence you need to be sufficiently proficient in German. Therefore together with your application you would have to hand in a certificate for having passed internationally accepted exams in both languages (German + English), at least level B2.
