Research Field Smart & Green Technologies

Due to the growing population, the increasing industrialization and the increased need for mobility and the associated rising demand for energy, the world is faced with massive challenges regarding an environmentally friendly and sustainable supply of energy. A departure from intensive non-sustainable hydrocarbon-based energy supply is almost inevitable due to the associated environmental and geopolitical problems. The associated challenges and the research of the technologies used here are reflected in the research field “Smart & Green Technologies” at FH Campus Wien.

These main topics within the research field are explored both theoretically, such as technical, economic and ecological analyses of technologies, as well as implemented in concrete technical realizations on the basis of research results. Especially in the field of photovoltaics, due to the in-house infrastructure, the corresponding possibilities and competencies are manifold. This is also reflected in the extensive cooperation with the industry within this focus area.

Infrastructure

Electronics Laboratory

In order to teach electronics development in a practical manner, FH Campus Wien has an electronics laboratory with 24 workstations. In addition, there is a dedicated development laboratory for R & D activities.

Photovoltaic System

A photovoltaic system for teaching and research has been installed on the roof of the main campus building of FH Campus Wien. This flexibly designed photovoltaic system makes the properties and the behavior of photovoltaic components such as PV modules, inverters, switching elements, protective devices and the like directly accessible for research activities at the university. In addition, the in-house photovoltaic system also offers students the opportunity to learn about the subject of photovoltaics in a practical manner.
