Research Field Research in Health Promotion & Prevention in Health Care and Nursing

Health promotion, prevention and the promotion of health literacy are central nursing core competences and are also declared as such in the health and nursing law (§14).Health literacy can be understood as those skills that influence people's knowledge, motivation and ability to find, understand, evaluate and apply relevant health information. Health literacy empowers people to maintain, promote or manage their health and is therefore a core concept in health promotion. Health promotion is understood as a process that gives all people a higher degree of self-determination about their health and empowers them to strengthen their health. Health promotion goes far beyond the focus of individual behavior and starts with a range of social and environmental interventions.The orientation based on existing resources is an inherent part of the professional understanding, especially in the field of nursing, and is a core element of Research in Health Promotion and Prevention in Health Care and Nursing. On the one hand, the research focuses on identifying evidence on the effectiveness of health promotion and prevention measures, and on the other hand on the development of health-promoting and health literacy-enhancing measures for specific target groups who are cared for in different settings as well as for the health and nursing staff.
