Economic and Social Policy in the context of the EU ILV

Lecture contents

a) the Austrian Welfare State: Construction principles, development patterns and current challenges
b) basic knowledge about EU (structures, working procedures, policy making)
c) introduction into policy analysis and EU-multi-level-governance-structures under consideration of certain social policy fields
d) during the second presence phase (2-days-seminar) a guest lecturer of a partner university will join the seminar. He or she will provide basic informations concerning his/her home country's social security system including the social welfare mix (of the new EU-member state). This is simultaneously a good starting point for the furture intercultural project management outgoing field research. Additionally, the team teaching seminar will also provide opportunities to learn about comparative social policy research (including the role of the social NGOs)

Lecture contents

The final Master Thesis demonstrates the ability of the student to work autonomously along a research question or problem concerning Social Economy and/or Social Work.
The work on the Master thesis happens mainly in the 3rd and 4th Semester.
The student gets coaching from their supervisor during this process.

- second assessment from the (external) second assessor

- present, discuss and reflect the Status Quo of their Master thesis and prepare questions along the research process and
- discuss the Master thesis of colleagues in different stages of their thesis and give a constructive feedback as important hints for the next working-steps.
