Social Work

Main focus of your studies

The generalistic basic training will teach you all the fundamentals required for a professional practice in the different fields of social work. You will learn to analyse social problems with the help of your theoretical knowledge and to reflect practically. Elective courses allow you to set the focus of your own individual education.

In the course of your education you will acquire three core skills:
Scientifically based professional skills:
  • your basic knowledge about social work theories and models as well as that from relevant reference sciences forms the basis for discerning the complex causes of social problems and initiating changes.
  • Job-related decision-making and responsibility skills: well-founded knowledge of the methodology of social work and pronounced communicative skills permit you to act professionally with individual clients, groups, the community and also with political decision makers and the public.
  • Social and personal skills: a high level of personal stability, the ability to be reflective and the ability to critically discuss theory and practise will prepare you to be successful in your challenging future occupation.

Studying in Vienna – in the centre of Europe

Vienna is an internationally recognised academic location, where contacts are made and networks are developed. Internationalisation is a living process, to which the staff at the University of Applied Sciences, FH Campus Wien are dedicated. A first-class choice of placements and study stays abroad or collaboration in international projects is central to a modern education. We invite you to make use of these possibilities.

Practical emphasis

The strong practical relevance guarantees you a smooth entrance into the working world. In the course of your studies you will gain comprehensive practical experience in the application of your theoretical knowledge. Several (occupational) placements give you the chance to make contacts for your professional future. Through your work in research and development projects (R&D) you will become acquainted with the active exchange between research and practise at the closest quarters.
