Info Bachelor/Master

Bachelor/Master

The European education ministries - including the Austrian - agreed in 1999 in the so-called “Bologna Declaration” to convert the academic education system into 3-tiers - Bachelor, Master and Doctorate. By the year 2010, 80 per cent of the degree courses on offer at universities and universities of applied sciences will be converted to the international system. The academic degrees should be internationally comparable due to the new Bachelor/Master system and the credit system introduced at the same time (ECTS). At the same time the incentive of students and lecturers to increase international mobility will be increased.
With the coming academic year (2007/2008), the FH Campus Wien is changing all of our degree programmes over to the Bachelor/Master system, consisting of general studies and post-graduate studies. Bachelor/Master degree programmes are replacing Diploma degree courses across Europe. The Diploma degree programmes at the FH Campus Wien will be completely phased-out by 2010 at the latest.

Bachelor degree programmes

The bachelor degree programmes offer you a practically-oriented academic education, during which you will complete an (industrial) placement. After six semesters you will graduate from the FH Campus Wien with the degree:

  • Bachelor of Arts in Business (BA)
  • Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences (BA)
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSc)
  • Bachelor of Science in Health Studies (BSc)
  • Bachelor of Science in Natural Sciences (BSc)

The advantage for you as a student: you can enter a job after only three years as an academic.

Master degree programmes

You will complete a master degree course after your bachelor course or even after some years of professional activity. In most cases you will undertake your master studies part-time, parallel to your employment. However, at the FH Campus Wien we also offer full-time masters, such as the master in Molecular Biotechnology or High-Tech Manufacturing.

The master degree course takes four semesters at the FH Campus Wien. Thus, we differ from those universities of applied sciences which offer master courses for two semesters. It is our view at the FH Campus Wien that it is not appropriate to offer master degree programmes that run over only two semesters to those interested, since a continuing doctorate is only possible after completion of a four semester master.

You will graduate from a master degree course at the FH-campus Vienna with the degree:

  • Diplom-Ingenieur/Diplom-Ingenieurin für technisch wissenschaftliche Berufe (DI)
  • Master of Arts in Business (MA)
  • Master of Arts in Social Sciences (MA)
  • Master of Science in Engineering (MSc)
  • Master of Science in Natural Sciences (MSc)

The new university of applied sciences academic degrees no longer have the “FH-” additive.
