Objective of the course
In particular following activities and training aims within the range delivery room and prepartale station can be attained:
The student becomes acquainted with the work routine of a prepartal department or a delivery room enterprise and can at the end of the practical course independently preparation work accomplish and in the team bring in themselves actively.
The student takes over the admission of a bearing according to the respective valid standard of the house, always under guidance of the midwife
The student can accomplish the support of the bearing (including perineum protection and
development of the child) and woman in childbed with the help of a midwife
The student can accomplish the preparation and the assistance with the supply of the episiotomy and/or obstetrical injuries under guidance alone.
The student can a cutting of a episiotomy under guidance would drive through.
The student knows the supply of the episiotomy and/or obstetrical injuries under guidance would drive through.
The student takes over the assisence for preparation with against the rules births and irregularities post office partum, with the help of a midwife.
The student takes over the preparation of the pregnant women to the sectio caesarea with the help of a midwife.
The student can accomplish special measures in care under guidance alone.
The student carries the responsibility for the organization of its authority within the range of the support on a Praepartalen station and a delivery room.
The student valuates its work with support of the practice instructor regularly and draws conclusions for their further learning.
Postnatal ward:
With the help of a midwife trainer students may plan, accomplish and analyze a childbed ward round. Under the guidance of these trainers they apply general preventive/therapeutic measures and reflect the quality and effect of their actions. They take over responsibility in order to achieve the internship goals, thus integrating their theoretical knowledge into their actions.
Postoperative station:
During the internship the student is supervised by and receives instructions of a professional in order to learn and undertake the following actions:
- preoperative preparation, take-over of the patient from the operation room, handling of the monitoring system.
- monitoring the vital signs, state of consciousness, pain management, fluid balance, and oxygen administration; preparation of infusions; single-use and permanent catheters; drains; bandage change; removal of venous and urinary catheters; conducting or assisting with oral and personal hygiene; bedding of patients, prophylaxis, mobilization, organization of the documentation including fever curve, nursing diagnosis, and care report, s.c. and i.m. injections, blood draw, transferring the patient from the recovery room to the ward.
Neonatologie:
During the internship the student is supervised by and receives instructions of a professional in order to learn and undertake the following actions:
- introduction to the pediatric intensive care unit including the medical devices and their application.
- admission of an infant, monitoring of the vital signs, care of the infant in- and outside the NICU, nutrition of the infant, administration of drugs, preparation of infusions, observation of excretion, special nursing practice.
- Monitoring and care of a ventilated infant, interpretation of laboratory findings, documentation, nursing diagnosis, planing the nursing process, transfer of the infant to the regular nursery or discharge from hospital.
- Compliance with hygiene requirements.

The students complete a practical course in the delivery room and on the praepartalen station for the reaching of the authority, particularly within the obstetrical range.
Theoretical knowledge, which was acquired in the preceding training meetings, in practice use. Midwife talents and abilities continue to practice over in accompanying contexts of the practical course the authority as a midwife to professionalisieren.
