OPTIPRO

The FHplus project OPTIPRO - the optimisation of a production platform for the synthesis of therapeutic proteins is currently underway in the Bioengineering Section of the FH Campus Wien.

The aim of the research is the development of new methods for a more efficient and economical manufacture of proteins. Proteins rank among the most important active pharmaceutical substances. They are usually manufactured biotechnologically - by micro-organisms (bacteria or yeast cells) or in animal cell cultures. Via the optimisation of a yeast system as production platform it should be possible for pharmaceutical companies to produce new medicines and products more rapidly in the future.

The project OPTIPRO is a cooperation between the Bioengineering Section at the FH Campus Wien and the Institute for Applied Microbiology at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU).

The research project has been underway since autumn 2005 and will run for 5 years. The project became possible by a grant from the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) as part of the impulse programme FHplus.
